Fiber Femmes Book Review Big Girl Knits Article by Sandra Bennett
Big Girl Knits
by Jillian Moreno and Amy R. Singer
Potter Craft, publisher
Jillian Moreno (former marketing
director with Interweave Press) and Amy R.Singer (www.knitty.com
editor) have co-authored a book that offers stylish, attractive designer
knitwear patterns aimed at the majority of (N. American) women...those who
are size 16+. Big Girl Knits shows how to take body measurements and how
to calculate and use those measurements to adjust your knitting for your
own body. They look at the 3 B's, Boobs, Belly and Butt, and give a
workable system to design personal knitwear that not only looks
attractive...it FITS.
Big Girl Knits has taken all the angst
out of knitting for those who are
math challenged. Really, it's true! For
those who prefer to use their little
gray cells and think about color, yarn,
pattern, needles this book is a
blessing. After reading, it's plug and
play and you're on your way to
beautiful knitwear that looks like it
was hand-crafted for YOU...because it
was handcrafted for you BY you. OMIGOSH,
how revolutionary!
From the book, "If you learn only one
thing from this book, this is it: Big Girl Knits should use yarn four
stitches to the inch or finer, period. Do
not put bulky, super-chunky-monkey
garment son your Big Girl body. Thick yarn doesn't add inches...it adds
feet..."
OUCH! Okay, so most Big Girls already
know that but did you know there are ***pants*** designed for Big Girls?
How about ***skirts***?
And they Look Great...not just good,
GREAT.
Now Ms Moreno and Ms Singer have to come
up with a Big Girl Crochets just to keep Fiber Femmes jealously levels at
a minimum.
