Fiber Femmes Gather Southeastern Felting Guild
Article by Libby White
26th at Fibers On A Whim 326 Sandy Springs Cir. Atlanta, GA 30328 404-705-9164. There were 9 members attending, Sharon Ahmed, Jennif Chandler, Allyn Esquinaldo, Mary McClendon, Aggie Simmons, Suzanne Poirier and Libby White. At least one or two people did not sign my book so not everyone got counted.
We started out the gathering introducing ourselves and telling a bit about our felting background. It was quite interesting to find out that many of the members had lived in or gone to school in Tallahassee but most of them had not met each other before.
felters worked on a gnome and a 3-D horse for a wall hanging.
As we worked, we discussed types of wool, felting techniques, wool sources and sheep. Two of the members owned sheep and large guard dogs so they could tell us quite a bit more about process of getting from sheep to roving. One member had batts and locks from her own sheep for sale.
The owners are delightful. They let us have the basement classroom for $5 each and we plan to meet there again in the next few months. The meeting starting winding down around 3:00 p.m. and most of us took our projects home to finish. It was a fun first meeting for the group and I hope we can have many more gatherings with even more people attending. We hope to offer demos and have everyone bring show and tell of their own work next time.
