Lucky Sister Sock Pattern by Charissa Clark Howe
Skill Level: Advanced beginner Cables Kitschner Stitch
Materials: 2 balls Cervinia Calzetteria (70% wool, 30% poly: 162 yds/ball) Size US3/3.25mm DPN's or circulars- to each his own Yarn needle, stitch markers, needle guage, cable needle Gauge: 4”= 22stitches in stockinette stitch
Cuff: CO 56 st evenly Work 2x2 rib for 1 1/4” Ankle: Rnds 1-5: work k6p2 rib Rnd 6: *c6b, p2* around Rnds 7-11: work k6p2 rib Rnd 12: *c6f, p2* around Repeat cable pattern 3-5 times until desired length, ending with a row 12. Work additional 6 rounds of k6p2 rib. Heel Flap: Row 1: sl1, k1 p2, *k2, p2* repeat between * 6 times, TURN Row 2: sl1, p1, k2, *p2, k2* repeat between * 6 times Repeat Rows 1 & 2 until heel flap measures 3 ½” or desired length, ending after a row 2. Turn Heel: Row 1: k18, TURN (10 st left unworked) Row 2: p8, TURN (10 st left unworked on either side of center 8 sts) Row 3: sl1, k until 1 st remains before turning gap, k2tog (over gap from turning), k1, TURN Row 4: sl1, p until 1 st remains before turning gap, p2tog (over gap from turning), p1, TURN Repeat rows 3 & 4 until all heel flap sts have been worked, ending after a Row 4. Pick up stitches for heel gusset: Pick up slipped stitches along side of heel flap and turn. K1, p1 across picked up sts and heel sts. Pick up slipped sts on second side of heel flap, continuing k1p1 rib. Work k2p2 rib along top of foot. Gusset decreases: Round 1: (begins at picked up sts on first side of heel flap-be sure to mark the beginning of your round.) k1, ssk, continue in k1p1 rib until 3 heel sts remain unworked, k2tog, k1, continue k2p2 rib across top of foot Round 2: work k1p1 rib around heel, k2p2 rib across top of foot Repeat rounds 1 & 2 until original 56 sts remain. Foot: Continue rib patterns until foot measures 5 ½” from corner of heel. Work st st until sock foot measures 8” from corner of heel (to change size, work until foot is 1 ½” shorter than desired foot length.) Toe: Round 1: k1, ssk, k until 3 heel sts remain, k2tog, k2, ssk, k until 3 sts remain in round, k2tog, k1 Round 2: K around Repeat rounds 1 & 2 until 24 sts remain Close toe using Kitschner Stitch Abbreviations CO cast on St stitch(es) k knit p purl c6b slide next 3 sts to cable needle and hold in back, k next 3 st, k3 st from cable needle c6f slide next 3 sts to cable needle and hold in front, k next 3 st, k3 sts from cable needle sl slip k2tog knit 2 together p2tog purl 2 together ssk sl1,sl1, inserting left needle knitwise into sts, knit the 2 sts together.
