Skill Level: Advanced beginner

Slipped stitches

Kitschner Stitch

This is a girl's sock, not adult sized.

 

Materials: 1 balls Cervinia Calzetteria (70% wool, 30% poly: 162 yds/ball)

Size US3/3.25mm DPN's or circulars

Yarn needle, stitch markers, needle guage

Guage: 4”= 24stitches in pattern stitch

Butterfly chart:

 

Cuff:

CO 48 st.

Being careful not to twist, join to begin working in the round.

Work 2x2 rib for 1”

Increase 2st evenly in last ribbing round.

Ankle:

Work two repeats of butterfly chart.

Work rows 2-7 of chart once more.

Heel Flap:

Row 1: sl1, k24, turn

Row 2: sl1, p24, turn

Repeat rows 1 & 2 until heel flap measures 3”

Turn Heel:

Row 1: sl1, k15, turn

Row 2: sl1, p7, turn

Row 3: sl1, k until 1 st rem before turning gap, k2tog over gap, k1, turn

Row 4: sl1, p until 1 st rem before turning gap, p2tog over gap, p1, turn

Repeat rows 3 & 4 until all heel sts have been worked.

Pick up stitches for heel gusset:

Pick up slipped stitches along side of heel flap and turn.

K across picked up sts and heel sts.

Pick up slipped sts on second side of heel flap, continuing st st and begin butterfly pattern for instep (same chart as ankle).

 

Gusset decreases:

Round 1: (begins at picked up sts on first side of heel flap-be sure to mark the beginning of your round.) k1, ssk, k until 3 heel sts remain unworked, k2tog, k1, work butterfly pattern across instep

Round 2: k around heel, butterfly pattern as established over instep.

Repeat rounds 1 & 2 until 50 sts remain.

Foot:

Continue in established patterns until foot measures 6” from corner of heel (or until foot is 1 ½” shorter than desired foot length), ending at completion of a chart repeat.

Toe:

Round 1: k1, ssk, k until 3 heel sts remain, k2tog, k2, ssk, k until 3 sts remain in round, k2tog, k1

Round 2: K around

Repeat rounds 1 & 2 until 26 sts remain

Close toe using Kitschner Stitch

ssk sl1,sl1, inserting left needle knitwise into sts, knit the 2 sts together.
