Materials
Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool, 50g = 175 m per skein,
sport weight, 1 skein
16-inch size 5 and 7 circular needles
Gauge: on size 5 needles, two 12 st chevrons = 4 inches. To work a
gauge swatch, cast on 25 sts. Row 1: *k1, YO, k4, sl 1, k2tog, PSSO, k4, YO*
rep between *s, end k1. Row 2: purl. Rep rows 1 & 2 until swatch is 4 inches
high. BO and measure gauge.
Size: When blocked, folded in half and laid out flat, the piece
measures about 14 inches wide at the base, 10 inches wide at the top and 6 ¼
in. high. Fits most adult women.
Notes: 1. To help cast on the right number of sts and establish the
pattern, place a marker after every 18 sts. There will be 11 chevrons with 18
sts each in the first
section. Use a different colored marker for the beginning of the round. 2.
When measuring length, lay the piece flat and measure straight up one of the
lacy spines.
Directions
Using size 7 needle, cast on 198 sts.
Join, being careful not to twist the sts. Purl one rnd.
Work the following pattern:
Rnds 1, 3, 5: *k1, YO, k7, sl 1, k2tog, PSSO, k7, YO* rep between *s to end.
Rnd 2 and all even numbered rnds: knit.
Rnd 7: *k1, YO, k5, SSK, sl 1, k2tog, PSSO, k2tog, k5, YO* rep between *s to
end.
There will be 16 sts per chevron, 176 sts total, after rnd 7.
Rnds 9 &11: *k1, YO, k6, sl 1, k2tog, PSSO, k6, YO* rep between *s to end.
Rnd 13: *k1, YO, k4, SSK, sl 1, k2tog, PSSO, k2tog, k4, YO* rep between *s to
end.
There will be 14 sts per
chevron, 154 sts total, after rnd 13.
Rnds 15 & 17: *k1, YO, k5, sl 1, k2tog, PSSO, k5, YO* rep between *s to end.
Rnd 19: *k1, YO, k3, SSK, sl 1, k2tog, PSSO, k2tog, k3, YO* rep between *s to
end.
There will be 12 sts per chevron, 132 sts total, after rnd 19.
Rnds 21 & 23: *k1, YO, k4, sl 1, k2tog, PSSO, k4, YO* rep between *s to end.
Change to size 5 needle and work the following pattern:
Rnd 1: *k1, YO, k4, sl 1, k2tog, PSSO, k4, YO* rep between *s to end.
Rnd 2 and all even numbered rnds: knit.
Repeat rnds 1 & 2 until piece measures 6 inches from cast on edge.
Repeat rnd 1 once. Purl one rnd.
Bind off knitwise.
Weave in ends and block.
